Railway's new scheme You may get to travel Rajdhani, Shatabdi at ordinary express fare from April 1st
Good news for train travellers from April 1 the Indian Railways will allow waitlisted passengers to travel in the next alternative train that is going towards the destination their ticket is booked for. From 1 April, passengers will be able to get the opportunity to travel on Rajdhani or Shatabdi trains, even if they have booked tickets at other express/mail trains for the same destinations. Railways is launching a new scheme starting from April 1st. Registered passengers can obtain confirmed accommodation on the next alternative train if they opt for the same when booking their tickets. According to the scheme, there will be no extra charges for passengers.
Indian railways new scheme is named as "vikalp" this scheme aims to use vacant berths on many premier trains including Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Duronto and other specials such as Suvidha trains on all major routes. Railways have to return on Rs. 7,500 crore per year as reimbursement to customers for cancellation of tickets for various reasons.
After the introduction of the flexible fare system on the main trains, some berths are vacant, while at the same time many passengers could not be accommodated in other Express / Express trains due to the huge demand. In any case, these berths are vacant, so anything we can save in refund is going to be a saving for us, there is no additional cost for the railways, so whatever we save will be profits for the railways, added the official.
