 Tatkal literally means 'Immediately'. Tatkal tickets are for last minute ticket booking . It is the most seek after mode of booking tickets for train travel.

 

How to book tickets in Tatkal?

 Basically Tatkal ticket booking starts from one day before the journey. And the reservation under the tatakal scheme starts from 10:00AM for AC classes whereas for non-AC classes will start at 11am.  Indian railways changed the tatkal quota code from CK & CKWL to TQ & TQWL respectively.




The general waiting list (GNWL) is preferred over the tatkal waiting list (TQWL) at the time of chart preparation according to the Indian railway circular. Therefore, the confirmed tatkal ticket booking is of utmost importance as the tatkal ticket waiting list has much less chance of confirmation and the tatkal tickets do not go through Reservation Against Cancellation (RAC). Create more than one credentials for logging into irctc website


  • If you only have only one login details, borrow one from your friend or family. Trying to book tickets in parallel using multiple browser or systems always increases the chances of getting a tatkal ticket.
  • DO NOT use the same irctc login details in multiple browsers simultaneously, since irctc can detect it and exit all sessions.
  • Make sure that the tatkal quota for your trip is opened one day in advance. It might open two or more days in advance if the train arrives at your train station on second or more days of execution.
  • Keep Id proof details such as PAN card or driving license on your handy. By this way you don't have to search for it after you have started the booking process.
  • Fill passenger details before 10am for AC class and before 11am for non-Ac class, you can save some time where as  you need not fill them again and save a couple of minutes this way which increases your probability of getting confirmed tatkal ticket.
  • For AC classes, try booking at 2A (second ac) first. For most routes, 2A fills less quickly than 3A despite smaller berths. Avoid trying to Book ticket on trains for which tatkal tickets have already exhausted.
  • Continue to check the current availability of bunk beds for tatkal fee on train man. Make payment using net banking this is the fastest method to payment. If you choose to pay by the cards you need to enter long card numbers and lot of other details that takes time.
  • Since irctc has made the OTP check mandatory so one must keep your phone close to get phone OTP details.
